Some of the following may put you at risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes:

  ·  Are you age 40 or over?

  ·  Are you overweight?

  ·  Do you have a family member who has diabetes?

  ·  Have you had gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy)?

  ·  Are you a member of a high risk group (Aboriginal, Hispanic, Asian, South Asian, or African descent)

  ·  Have you had a baby weighing 9 lbs or greater?

  ·  Do you have prediabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol or other blood fats?

  ·  Have you been diagnosised with polycystic ovary syndrome, acanthosis nigricans or schizophrenia?

Talk to you Doctor or RN (EC), and they will arrange for a blood test to be done at the laboratory.

From time to time the RN from the Diabetes Education Centre will be in the community holding clinics to perform risk screening for Type 2 Diabetes. Check our Calendar of Events when these dates are posted.
